One in five children have encountered cyberbullying

According to a survey by the universities school research network almost every fifth Finnish child or young person has been cyberbullied or has witnessed someone else being cyberbullied. The bullying usually manifests as verbal attacks against someone’s pictures or status updates, and as ridiculing and harassing.

The survey shows that children and young people actively use social media in their spare time, but the use of social media and the internet is still minimal at school and for doing homework.

The most popular social media sites amongst children and young people are Facebook and YouTube.

2500 7-20-year olds took part in the survey.
