More Than Just Child's Pl@y?

Small children and children in school age spend a great amount of their time among different media. That’s why it’s important to develop media education in early childhood.  The subject has in the recent years been studied in Finland and the results from the research on Finnish 0-8-year old children's media barometer will be presented in February 2011.

The Finnish Society on Media Education and the Mannerheim League for Child Welfare would like to invite experts within early childhood education to an international seminar More than Just Child's Pl@y? 10-11 February 2011 in Helsinki, Finland.

During two days experts get acquainted with the media education field from a small child’s perspective by examining engagement in fan- and media culture and by getting to know the latest research. In the working groups the participants get acquainted with the media education situation in other countries by viewing it from different perspectives and also learn about projects and researches. The seminar can later be viewed online at Kirjastokaista.fi

Each seminar participant prepares an approx. 10 minute long presentation with the perspective on small children’s media education in their own work. The presentation can be a research or a report, a project or a project description or an administrative presentation, that describes for example decision-making or legislation regarding the subject. The presentations will be divided into groups based on their themes. The aim is to get ideas for further development or an important notion to small children’s media education from each group.

No participation fee. The participants have to pay their own travel and hotel expenses. The organizers will provide coffee and dinner on Thursday and coffee and lunch on Friday.
